Truro BID

Truro Children's Day 2024

We brought Children’s Day back to Truro City Centre for the seventh year, on Saturday 6 July, with lots of mostly free entertainment and activities for families to enjoy.

We organised spectacular mountain bike stunt shows and family fun on Lemon Quay. Walking and cycling charity Sustrans were back with their free scooter, balance and pedal bike obstacle course for children, plus their exciting static cycle activity for young people to improve their off-road skills. Bikes and helmets provided.

There were have-a-go sessions in circus skills with Swamp Circus, and this year dance performances from Cornwall Dance School, Jason Thomas Performing Arts and Stagecoach Truro. Children enjoyed swing boat rides, along with family-friendly crazy golf, craft activities and stalls. Some street entertainment popped up across the city and we were delighted to have nearly 30 shops and eateries taking part with special in-store activities and offers for families on the day.

Many activities were free. Children’s Day was brought to the city by Truro BID and sponsored by Coodes Solicitors.

Marketing Children's Day

We promoted Children's Day 2024 with a combination of:

  • posters in the public realm and at Truro businesses
  • advertising in Blackbird Pie, Primary Times and on Cornwall 365
  • editorial in Truro Together, media releases where we gained media coverage on the Falmouth Packet
  • communication to schools
  • social media activity on @trurobid (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter)
We also liaised with Visit Truro so they promoted Children's Day on visittruro.org.uk and on their Facebook page (@visittruro).

Children's Day 2023

We brought Children’s Day to Truro City Centre for the sixth year, and with more, mostly free entertainment and activities than ever before!

There were spectacular mountain bike stunt shows and, new for 2023, skateboarding demos and performance parkour demos on Lemon Quay. Children could have-a-go at skateboarding, performance parkour, circus skills with Swamp Circus and dance with InspirAsian Dance, Cornwall Dance School. Jason Thomas Performing Arts and Stagecoach Truro also performed.

Walking and cycling charity Sustrans returned with their free scooter, balance and pedal bike obstacle course for children, plus an exciting static cycle activity for young people to improve their off-road skills.

Families enjoyed crazy golf and fun craft activities, plus the Royal Cornwall Museum was on Lemon Quay giving children the chance to handle old toys from the museum and make a vintage toy. Street entertainment popped up across the city.

We were delighted to see the city centre so busy. It was great that some of Truro's shops and eateries engaged with us and joined with family friendly in-store activities and offers for the day.

A huge thanks to everyone who took part and supported Children's Day, including our sponsor Coodes Solicitor, along with all the families who came along and had a great time!

To make space for all the activities on Lemon Quay, Truro Farmers Market relocated to Boscawen St (thank you). A special thanks also to Truro City Council for enabling Truro Farmers Market to relocate for the day by funding the security officers manning the road closures.
